Safrochain
Africa-first Layer-1 blockchain built with the Cosmos SDK: CosmWasm smart contracts, IBC interoperability and a public mainnet, with an explorer, faucet, docs and dApps around it.
Context
Safrochain is an open Layer-1 network designed for Africa’s mobile-first reality: fast, low-cost transactions and a bridge between local communities and the wider on-chain economy through IBC.
What we built
- The chain itself: a Cosmos SDK and CometBFT node with CosmWasm smart contracts, IBC, token factory and fee-sharing modules
- A public mainnet (safrochain-1, launched in June 2026) secured by a distributed validator set, alongside a public testnet
- SafroExplorer, a real-time block explorer backed by a GraphQL indexer
- Developer tooling: documentation, a faucet and chain-registry data
- Ecosystem dApps such as Safrimba, a rotating-savings (tontine) app built on CosmWasm and live on testnet, and Safhandle, which lets users send funds to @handles instead of long addresses
- The safrochain.com website and a dApps hub
Technology
Go with the Cosmos SDK, CometBFT, CosmWasm and IBC-Go for the protocol, Rust for smart contracts, and Next.js with TypeScript for the web experiences.
